Update: Coastal Nations Commercial Fishing

The 2026 fishing season is shaping up to be another prosperous year for Coastal Nations Commercial Fishing, with in-season operations running smoothly.

We are happy to report that all four of Coastal Nations Commercial Fishing active vessels are participating in multiple fisheries.

• Our vessel Adventurer had a successful 2026 prawn season with good catches and higher prices helping offset another shortened season. It has now switched over to fishing Troll Salmon in Area F.

• The Lasqueti Titan caught a full block of Halibut in April and is now fishing Crab in Area A.

• The Lasqueti Explorer is also fishing Crab in Area A and will switch over to fish Halibut later in September.

• The Lasqueti Sons has just returned South from seining Salmon in Areas 3 and 4 and is fishing Pinks in Area 13. We are planning on a Halibut trip in September before switching back to Salmon for the fall Chum fishery.

Leasing Operations

We are actively managing the Nations’ commercial quota for Geoduck, Sablefish, Ling Cod, Red and Green Sea Urchin, and Sea Cucumber through industry relationships, partnerships and joint ventures.

Our primary goal is to maximize a sustainable return for our Shareholder Nations while prioritizing opportunities for fishers from the Nations.

• So far, all of our West Coast Vancouver Island and Gulf Geoduck quota has been harvested and we look forward to the North opening soon.

• In June, we conducted a bid process for the Nations’ Sablefish and Ling Cod Quota. Our selection committee was pleased with the strong interest received from industry and fishers from our shareholder Nations.

• Our focus is now shifting to the Red and Green Sea Urchin fisheries and planning for the upcoming Sea Cucumber season in the fall.
