SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT

Working Together on a Shared Vision

Beyond expanding local fisheries and improving economic well-being in coastal communities, the FRRA will ensure a more collaborative approach to governance, management and protection of the marine ecosystems of the Central and North Coast and Haida Gwaii.

The agreement is the first in BC to establish a collaborative fisheries management process between First Nations and Fisheries and Oceans Canada, facilitating an enhanced role in fisheries management and participation in decision-making processes for shareholder Nations, whose territories make up 40 percent of the province’s coastal waters.

MARINE STEWARDSHIP

Stewardship Centred Governance

Profits from coastal Nations' commercial fisheries will be reinvested to support long-term marine stewardship and resource planning, and to advance the work required to establish and implement collaborative fisheries governance.

WITH THIS NEW ARRANGEMENT AND COOPERATIVE APPROACH, WE EXPECT TO WORK TOGETHER WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO ADVANCE OUR COMMON GOAL OF CARING FOR THE OCEAN."
